Meh, I had a crush on an older guy who went to a different school for a couple years.

Maybe he was in Maud's grade? Perhaps Maud and Shining dated for a bit and Pinkie fell in love with him.

That would also explain how Pinkie knew about the human Twilight in EqG1 (aside from Pinkie Sense): she had heard Shining talking about his little sister to mom.

Pinkie's "crush" one Shining is so random. Even by whatever semblance to standards Pinkie has.
They don't even go to the same school and are ages apart.
