ok, i know i’ve already uploaded each of these with their families, but i thought id upload them all together again so i have somewhere to plonk headcanons that aren’t to do with their ships or their families. i also think it’s nice to do a heigh compariosn. i have a version with lines on here (the black line in the midst is the heigh of the “average” mare, though rarely anyone is that height bc there are variations between unicorn/pegasi/earth ponies) - sta.sh/0so3ghvoeza

Princess Twilight Sparkle
- as i said in her family post, before her ascension she was not only smaller, but also had strong unicorn traits - however after ascending and gaining her wings, she’s developed a few more pegasi traits (fluff, smaller hooves, and wings obviously). Her mother was born and raised in Canterlot, while her father was a unicorn from a distant land, who came to canterlot to find work.
- twilight has a bit of a…saviour complex. having been trained since a very young age by celestia to be the “chosen student,” and being relied upon every single time there’s a world destroying threat, she tends to throw herself into dangerous situations because she thinks that only SHE should be the one doing it, she needs to be the protector, etc…. when she can’t do it, even if somepony else manages to save everything, her life comes crumbling down and she feels like she’s failed her friends and her family and all of Equestria. - it’s not from a place of narcisism, it’s simply how she’s been trained to be. she’s developed some level of PTSD because of these situations, too.
- she is EXTREMELY MATERNAL. particularly with spike. in the current show he’s more like a teen, and doesn’t really need twilight’s help, but she gives it anyway - she’s raised him from just a little egg and remembers what temperature he likes his milk and when his nap times are and so forth, even though it’s been years since she’s had to do any of it.
- she can sing! pretty well actually! she doesn’t really doesn’t do it much publicly, the only time she’s properly performed was during the battle of the bands in rainbow rocks - otherwise she’s mostly humming to herself or singing a lullaby to her kids….or drunk karaoke, but that’s probably not the best display of her skills
- loves to give her famous twilight sparkle speeches at pride events. She’s kind of become the bi icon of equestria….she’s a bi icon to me tbh
Rainbow Dash
- this is kind of shown in canon but…. rainbow is secretly the biggest softie ever. she’s all rough and tumble on the outside, but it’s only to cover up a deep desire for someone to give her some snuggles and kissies, and to give herself some self confidence that she was lacking for the longest time. she’s also a bit of a worrier, almost as bad as twilight, and tries desperately to repair and make things ok in a hyperventilating panic.
- not the shortest of the mane six, but still very small, and does not like to be reminded of it. pinkie manages to get away with it since she’s basically jumping up and down all the time, but thanks to her strong pegasus roots, she is ickle. twilight likes to tease her about it and she hates it.
- despite how much she proclaims she hates how supportive her parents are, really, she’s happy they’re there for her and loves seeing them in the crowd at any of her wonderbolt shows - even if she doesn’t show it. it’s all a front, yknow. she’s got a lot of layers u have to get through.
-rainbow loves cider, but alas…..she is an absolute lightweight. she’s gone pretty quick. AJ gives her the kids non-alcoholic cider every year and doesn’t tell her
Pinkie Pie
- Pinkie has no idea how to deal with romantic feelings. she’s so used to being cheery and bubbly and friendly with every one, that these kinds of emotions are hard for her to express thoughtfully and genuinely. she usually tries to push them out of her mind instead of confronting them. luckily, she has friends who will push her into it.
- She doesn’t really get along too well with her parents, particularly her father. she tries her hardest to be friendly to everypony, esp her parents, but they dont really approve of her job, and would prefer her to be back working on the farm. She’s much closer to her grannie pie. you wont hear her talk about her parents much - her sisters plenty, but not her mother or her father
- Mr and Mrs Cake are sort of like her new parental figures. They adore pinkie and all that she does for them. So much so that she inherited their family business when they retired, and regularly gives pound and pumpkin cake baking lessons.
Apple Jack
- AJ can and WILL drink you under the table. She’s big, so it’s obviously gonna take a lot to bring her down.
- AJ still holds memories of her mum and dad, before they died. they certainly aren’t as strong as big mac’s, but they’re certainly enough to make her miss them. none of the apple family are really over it, honestly. sometimes AJ thinks she is, but rarity will find her awake at 2am going through old photos and crying over them.
- initially, after they died, AJ was resentful of applebloom. obviously she’d grow to love her little sister, but the initial shock of losing her parents led her to displace all her anger and blame onto small, baby applebloom. It wasn’t fair, and AJ regrets it now. She tries to make up for it now, and almost smothers apple bloom sometimes.
- AJ and most of the apple family are like, pureblood earth ponies, with probably the most earth pony saturated family going back years and years…. Obviously, the intro of rarity breaks that thread, but all of the apple family are so welcoming that they don’t mind this change of pace.
Rarity
- although rarity blatantly despises getting her hooves dirty, she recognises that sometimes there is a need for it when dying fabrics and such - it really is a frightening scene if you don’t know rarity that well, to walk in on her in her boutique covered in smears of dye and a manic look in her eye. it’s the kind of mess she doesn’t mind making, and gets a little kick out of some controlled fun.
- rarity is a business mare at heart, but deep down a part of her just wants a family of her own and a loving husband/wife. She’s always busy running back and forth from ponyville, to manehatten, to canterlot, but by celestia she WILL fit in a good few hours of family time!
- though she never lets on, because of her busy schedule, rarity is constantly stressed, perhaps to the extent that twi is. to compensate, when she feels her life is spinning out of control, she attempts to fix other people’s problems - and more often than not that turns out to be twilight, who is constantly tittering on breaking point from how stressed she gets. eventually twilight begins to return the favour every now and then. the two are like…stress buddies…
Fluttershy
- i mean, we all know flutter’s problems with anxiety. even though she’s better at dealing with things now, her anxiety was never “cured” - she just managed to learn coping mechanisms and breathing methods that keep her calm and able to function. eventually it does reduce, but only because she learned to live with it.
- in fact, fluttershy runs a mental health group every fortnite to help other ponies in ponyville cope with their anxieties and mental health problems. She makes them tea and biscuits and bunnies to pet to help keep them calm.
- the reason fluttershy is not that strong of a flier, is that for generations, her father’s side of the family had been earth ponies - and he was the first pegasus to be born of that line. Usually just a little earth pony blood is not an issue, but we’re talking like, apple family levels of earth ponies - that, and fluttershy has very little practice, leads to a pony that prefers solid ground.
