About the Oedipus Complex: Because to a child ‘love’ means ‘liking something/one a lot’. They don’t understand the deeper context of it. A child will also imitate (as anybody who has raised/worked with children can tell you, they are sponges) their same gendered parental figure. If that is their Mother/Father, a close family friend or whatever is irrelevant. They ‘love’ their opposite gendered parental figure, as such language is used all the time (“Love you, good night”, etc). They see how people who ‘love’ act towards each other, and imitate it when acting with their parents. Some of it can actually be deeply disturbing for the adults themselves, who understand the deeper context that the child is missing.

I’ve seen 4 year old girls being picked up by their father from daycare doing runway walks, swaying their non-existent hips and running their hand through their hair. This kind of action, in another 12 years, would be called ‘seductive’, but of course the child doesn’t understand that. To them, it is just how girls act towards men they ‘love’.

It’s a fascinating thing to observe if you know to look for it. And rest assured, you did it too when you were young. You don’t remember it (a combination of being too long ago and you repressing the memories of it) but I guarantee you it was there.

Aww, did somebody break your heart in grade school?

It was the other way around, and it was highschool.

the trope of children teasing or being mean to their crushes is actually fully accepted and explained in any introductory Child Psychology class.

Sure, but that doesn’t mean that it should be encouraged.

Much like the Oedipus Complex, it’s a normal part of a developing mind and we grow out of it all on our own.

The problem is that many people don’t grow out of it, and many teenagers and adults think it’s ok to treat their lovers that way or to be treaded by their lovers that way.

Also, how the hell is an oedipus complex normal? Most children don’t even like romance, and yet you claim that most children fall in love with their parents? If that’s not what you meant, then how am I supposed to know?

Don’t conflate children who do it with the concept of adult abusers, any more than any child with the Oedipus/Electra complex (which would be every child) is inbred.

My problem is that media encourages it and treats it as acceptable behavior, which tells children that they shouldn’t grow out of it.

Guess there is a reason your avatar is a duck.

For all those taking this somewhat seriously, the trope of children teasing or being mean to their crushes is actually fully accepted and explained in any introductory Child Psychology class. Much like the Oedipus Complex, it’s a normal part of a developing mind and we grow out of it all on our own. Not maybe, it is both, and it’s highly abhorrent that media presents such relationships as cute. They’re not, they’re abusive, and it’s abusive to children to teach them that domestic abuse is ok.

Random trivia: Spike and Smolder’s VA’s voice both Diego and Fabiola in the anime Black Lagoon.

If you’ve seen the series you know what a cool coincidence that is.

Not true, every time Rarity has been involved in a romance, it’s always been with a stallion.and before you bring up the possibility of bisexuality, the show has never indicated that such a thing is a possibility, it’s all headcanon and personal interpretation.
