I too think they look uncute and uncanny when exagerately poofy.  
But just with the right ammount of poofiness, they can make a baby foal look really cute.  
That, or when the diaper has some slight downward leg sleeves, which makes it look like a tiny pair of pants :3

I am getting nightmares when I see a foal with diapers. It reminds me of gen3 and it is looking too humanish.
