@TheAmazingPeanuts
That’s not the point I was trying to make. I know both can fly, but can they also shoot fire out of their mouth? No, only Spike can do that.
@Beau Skunky
If you didn’t watch the episode that was leaked, Spike was afraid that if he grow up, he have to leave on his own until Twilight pointed out it’s not the dragon lands and he don’t have to do that.
@TheAmazingPeanuts
Spike has been shown to actually enjoy being her assistant. To the point he got jealous over an owl.
Not to mention, he doesn’t use his fire powers much in the first place. (Apparently, can’t use them well all the time.) Being able to fly hasn’t really kept Dashie & Flutters out of danger, especially considering many Equestria monsters also can fly too like manticores, the bugbear, Windigoes, and others.
@Background Pony #B430
You forget that Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy can fly right? I don’t know what you talking about here, just because Spike have wings doesn’t mean he won’t stop being Twilight’s assistant.
Spike having wings is a symbol of him growing up, it makes him more useful and indepent now because he won’t need his friends to carry him, fly him around, or protect him from danger every single time. Plus, it also gives him 1 advantage that none of his pony friends have, being able to fly and breath fire.
@Daneasaur
I remember some did that with Twilight, and other things too, despite the show staff saying those weren’t inspired by the fanbase.
I remember some even tried to claim they copied the famous horror/gore fanfic “Cupcakes” when Pinkie had her famous breakdown in “Party of One.” (But seeing how that was a Season 1 episode, that means it was written a year before the brony fanbase started, and before that fic was written.)
I suppose it does kinda make Spike lose some of his uniqueness, as I stated.
@TheAmazingPeanuts
The only downside is that a lot of the artists who made winged spike images to fit their headcanon will be screaming “HAHAHAHA! SEE! I KNEW IT’D HAPPEN!” when they didn’t know it would happen.
I personally just see it as wasted potential considering they could have done a lot more with Spike’s ambiguous origin, but they “just made him another dragon”.
@Background Pony #F284
Spike having wings is not gonna change anything personality-wise. It’s just like Twilight, she have wings but nothing changes from being her nerdy self, same thing will happen to Spike. I don’t see the big deal of him having wings.
@Beau Skunky @TheAmazingPeanuts
“Spike gain wings and must learn to fly” and “Spike turn out to be a rare breed of dragons, and must learn his abilities” are two equally widespread fanons. Both aren’t ideal, for example, second variant sound too much like “The Chosen One The Last Of His Kind”.
But show is valiant in breaking Status Quo, and I appreciate it.
@Beau Skunky
I get what you saying, I’m not too crazy about Spike having wings either, because he didn’t have wings back in the previous generations of MLP. Just like you, I like to think of him being one of the dragons that don’t have wings at all.
@Beau Skunky
Since the beginning, I’ve treated every episode of FiM as a teaser for every future episode. Now all that’s left is whether to predict the series finale boss to be Lavos or Zanza. X3
@northern haste
Not the first time the fans unintentionally foreshadowed the show. They’ve also been giving the CMC cutie-marks sense the Season 1 days. I even remember a fanfic featuring Tirek before he appeared too. (Seeing as he was the first MLP villain ever.)
@Background Pony #F284
Indeed. Hate to sound like a contrarian, but I kinda like Spike better without wings.
(Please, don’t give me crap for that, guys… Let me stress, I’m NOT against the idea of wingy Spike, nor “anti-Twilicorn,” or anything.)
It was kinda interesting to assume some species of dragons didn’t have them, (like earth-ponies) and made Spike a li’l unique to other dragons. Still, I look forward to seeing how it happens.
