I remember some did that with Twilight, and other things too, despite the show staff saying those weren't inspired by the fanbase.
 
I remember some even tried to claim they copied the famous horror/gore fanfic "Cupcakes" when Pinkie had her famous breakdown in "Party of One." (But seeing how that was a Season 1 episode, that means it was written a year before the brony fanbase started, and before that fic was written.)


 
I suppose it does kinda make Spike lose some of his uniqueness, as I stated.
