It was meant more along the lines of your past becomes a flight of fancy, no more certain in shape than were your childhood perceptions of your future. To put it less dramatically, you get amnesia, and your past becomes whatever you daydream it to be.
 
Though yeah, it’s a concerning point that what we call “memories” are just bits of imagination we remember telling ourselves happened.
