It’s a style that doesn’t exactly match the show and people are comparing it to the ‘dreaded’ g3 and g1 and they don’t even know the difference between them.

The art seems okay, it’s just that the faces just seem to lack emotion. Usually Rainbow Dash has more attitude, and I can’t figure out what Twilight is supposed to be doing…
But for all we know, the story could be great and the pictures inside might look better.

Yeah, that sounds pretty cool, and considering the target audience is probably under 12, I think that may be what Hasbro wants older fans to gravitate towards.
Gills and fins. They’ve got gills and fins. The art is… fine, I guess, but whoever was commissioned to do it obviously doesn’t know much about the show. In fact, I think those faces and expressions have more in common with G1 than our beloved FiM.
I don’t see it as picky, more as being shown something you don’t find personally visually appealing and saying: “I don’t like this because I don’t like the style.”
People have done this before with some of the comic covers.
