Yeah, but social engineering was the only thing going on in the stables intentionally, and it was mostly benign. The stables(except 1) that went wrong only did so through unforeseen circumstances.
 
Compare to the vaults whose social experiments ranged from deliberately creating a dictatorship, to white noise generators or hallucinogenic gases which caused everyone to go crazy. And those are actually TAME compared to some of the experiments…especially a couple in Fallout 4.

IIRC the CMC were trying to trying to stop the war from happening again, by captive social experiments to re-engineer pony society. I know for sure that of the 7 (out of at least 101) stables in the original story, 1 of them was incomplete, 5 of them were used for some kind of social experiment, and 1 was a death trap “fuck you” to the ministry mares. also of the only one that went wrong unintentionally, it still took a century for the pink cloud to eat its way in.

Remember that, aside from one or two designed to be deathtraps for politicians, the stables actually WERE designed to try and save people. Yeah that didn’t stop a bunch of them from going wrong anyway, but unlike the Vaults, it wasn’t by design.

A vault/stable with just one pipbuck sounds interesting. Vault/Stable Tec used those as a way to keep track of their test subjects so its interesting that only one person/pony had one. I guess they assumed it would not be needed or most likely, figured they would not last long under this system.
