Aside from the leakage part, that’s in line with canon. Getting her horn damaged left her unable to do precise spells, just huge blasts, which is why she tends to rely on physical combat more.

My headcanon is that she retained her power as a unicorn when her horn was broken, but lost fine-grained control. To this day she can’t manipulate small objects with as much dexterity as unicorns with full horns. Also her use of magic in general is prone to energy leakage and spasms, which decreases efficiency and makes mundane tasks slightly dangerous. She’s managed to control this to a degree, living with it for so long.
 
Now I could be wrong, but in the movie I don’t remember seeing her carefully, slowly lifting anything with telekinesis, I only remember seeing her do fast or violent things with her magic (zapping, fireworks, etc).
 
On the plus side, it’s this un-caged unicorn magic that allows her to do her namesake explody fireworks so well.
