Stay as far from the drama as posible, but know this, EQD writing on it pretty much made things reach critical mass. Most people did not know about the rather rude and alienating comments made by staff on Twitter (More than once I felt the disdain they felt for me due to my views, even though they do not know me personally) because EQD never reported on it, but after this, mildly aggravated parents discussed with upset fans who revealed them the social media statements, and now parents want at least half of the staff gone, just the way it happened with the IDW comic drama.
 
Basically if EQD, and those in favor of it, kept it quiet and did not celebrate their “victory” (Using their own words), it have remained as it was, a small nod that was harmless and irrelevant, a footnote bypassed by most parents and children.
 
Everyone on the “for” side made it political, even used name calling. EQD mods asking to keep it civil were attacked by both sides, called both f*****s and homophobes. Things escalated. This was blown out of proportion because of the media exposure.
 
If only people remembered to be as careful when writing on social media as they are when speaking to their relatives and employers, this would defuse quite fast.

It is not big deal, and in a different context people would have probably let it pass. But in the current context in which people are pitted against each other for ideological reasons by elites which benefit from the conflict, this was the worst thing possible. You see, the staff has made statements that make some fans, and parents, feel alienated. This was pretty much harmless and inconsequential, but basically made them voice all their grievances at once in a single angry yell.

I for one quit that place basically last year. I can only imagine what’s going on there, and probably imagine accurately. I witnessed an LGBT discussion there end up having people saying others literally deserve to die, it sure got uncivilized. You’d think it’s just a couple minor characters in one of the MLP books and no big deal…

To be honest, only people left in the EQD comments section for this are a few homophobes triggered at how “sinful” and “unnatural” this is. Everyone who had anything worthwile to say left couple of hours after the post went up.
