Not exactly. But, you see, they risk harming the company and its interests. My sister worked at a tech company, she was not allowed to say anything positive about competitors on social media if it could be tied to the company she worked at.

I can’t comment on whether or not it’s a good idea to air one’s political grievances on social media, but, as redweasel already pointed out, is it fair to hold Hasbro accountable for everything their staff do off the clock and on their own time?

That is exactly the problem here. How do you think the others side sees you? As long as no one is willing to sit down and talk, things will start escalating. As long as both sides start with name calling and hostile intent, nothing will improve. But if that is the path you seek, I will be sitting here looking at how you tear the world apart and sacrifice it in the altar of dogmatism.

Did that work this time? Because I see them actually mor fervent and encouraged than never. The worse things get and the more divided people get, the higher their morale grows. That is how Weimar Germany lead to the Third Reich, and then stopping them took a lot longer and required more death.

Does it even really matter why the easily-offended crybabies are crybabying? The people who are losing their $#!+ over this are so thin-skinned that they’ll basically pitch a fit about anything that doesn’t exactly conform to their narrow band of narrowminded politics.

The situation was blown of proportion by fans, and so what I predicted, and feared, happened. Some parents were upset.
 
But that was not the only thing that made them upset, nor the most valid, just the more recent.
 
The previous grievances come from tweets made by staff members long before the book was released. And those complaints are the ones I agree with.
 
For me the whole thing about these characters is irrelevant, and I assume it is the least concern to many. It is just the point where things reached critical mass.
 
The staff endorsement of political violence refers specifically to tweets alienating republicans, conservatives, Trump voters, and anyone to the right of the staff, as well as president of the US Donald J. Trump. Entirely unrelated to homosexual characters. If not for those tweets and fandom reactions, things would have defused fast.

So placing a homosexual couple–that doesn’t have any significance to the plot and only has a couple of lines dedicated to them–in a story is now equivalent to inciting political violence? It seems unfair to blame the employees of that simply because some people out there are unable to control themselves when they so much as see homosexuality being hinted at.

personally, I feel as long as it’s clear they’re representing themselves, not the company, they should be free to say whatever they want. it’s unethical for an employer to tell their employees how they’re allowed to express themselves off the clock.
