I’m not sure RD is the best barometer for an earth pony beating a non earth pony. The only catagory RD DOESN’T have in S Tier ability is the ‘do you even lift?’ attribute. Were talking about the pony who tosses massive rocks that only seem inferior to Maud(the badass older sibling of the show), creates massive explosions when she goes full speed into huts with no damage, flying thrusts into enemies with the force of actual superheroes, and is able to speed switch a pie in front of Pinkie just due to insane physical fitness.
 
Even outside the episodes that explore that she caused a sonic rainboom as a child, her parents episode basically revealed she was a physical monster almost from the start, constantly surpassing records of her older peers who became Wonderbolts before her.

AFAIK, this is the first time she demonstrated humongous amount of strength. Before she had regular Earth Pony strength.

This image indicates that she’s built strength in her forelegs since losing pitifully to Rainbow Dash in an arm wrestle in S1. AJ here is using both her forelegs and her hind legs; she’s pushing off the ground and onto the boulder.
 
Maybe she’s been learning how to actually use her earth pony magic. Heh. Good stuff.

Except in the same episode she had her earliest great feat of strength too. Its her back legs that have always been portrayed as having most of the power.

Applejack has come a long way since Season 1.

Cheerilee is the only one in the series that amazed me with her strength. I was like “Dayum Cheerilee! <3” when she broke the door apart. XD And, of course Lily Longsocks is such a cutie. <3

It feels like they’re starting to put more emphasis on Applejack’s physical strength lately. She has this rock feat, her LoM counterpart is literally the “Element of Strength,” and her human counterpart has the power of super strength.
 
This isn’t a complaint mind you, I’m all for it. Give AJ more crazy feats of strength, I say. The more the merrier.

Well on that note I don’t think people are claiming that super strength of that level is on any level common among earth ponies (just like how most unicorns are far weaker than Twilight/Starlight/Starswirl, or how most pegasi are far slower than Rainbow Dash), just that it does exist. And given what Applejack has shown before (only related to kicking though, the rest of her is not as strong) what she did here I think could be nitpicked as “above” rather than “far above.”
 
One does wonder though if the items were effecting them in some way, as each of the Mane 5 did something related to the legend or element of the legendary figure whose item they were seeking.

A true wtf scene for me, far above anything she’s done before, and in front of other earth ponies who seem equally surprised.
