Agreed on that second point. I don’t view Slice of Life as canon either, since it was essentially a “filler” episode with the sole intention of being a “thank you” to the older fans. Its story was entirely self-contained, did not include the main characters at all (only a bunch of background ponies that are popular in the fanbase) and nothing from it was ever referenced again as continuity. It was like a high-quality, episode-length, “just for fun” fan animation.
Personally I didn’t even like the ideas of them being more than casual acquaintances. I really wish fans depicted Octavia with the band she had in The Best Night Ever more often for example. Pairing them up together even just as friends was always weird to me. Of course this opinion is moot now that Slice Of Life happened.
@G.S.
Always saw them as an odd couple type (housemates of convenience who kinda get on each others’ nerves sometimes) rather than shipped them together.
Considering the house they live in is completely bisected based on their interests instead of blended harmoniously, I’d bet money that these two are siblings. It would also make it really funny how Octavia sometimes caves in and takes part in Vinyl’s craziness despite attempting to appear refined on the outside – it runs in the family!
