Deep down she does want admiration and adoration, but fears if she gets it she’ll no longer be feared and respected.
In my headcanon she’s long since mellowed out from how she was in that episode :P

Gosh darn it, why are we falling for her so easily? That’s her real magic, isn’t it? Combining all the cuteness and charisma of a cat with a pony?
Yeah. For all we know, she might be all talk and not actually be willing to outright hurt others, considering she left without a fight despite clearly being more than a match for like all the ponies and how she forced them to gather food for her instead of just hunting on her own :P
Let’s not forget, all she did was offer riddles. Like any Sphinx would do.
She sort of just ragequit and left. Like, she wasn’t even defeated. Somnambula had no leverage whatsoever; this big cutie could have lost, then just sat on her or something and continued her reign of terror XD

Could also be better though. Keep in mind she wasn’t killed or even really defeated: she just peaced out. Just like another certain ‘villain’ who did exactly the same thing :D
For all we know she lives a really long time (or knowing Equestria that event was like last week or something) and she’s ruling some other kingdom now. Heck, maybe she’s long since mellowed out and is really nice now. Heck, she was probably the least evil and aggressive villain to appear yet :D

I’ll do you one better and imagine them both voiced by Gilbert Gottfried. He makes nearly everything funny, especially when reading 50 Shades Of Grey
You are now imagining somnambulism and the sphinx making out with the old stallion voicing them both. then we have a jump cut to show said old stallion holding dolls together to their lips.
Same. Definitely enjoyed how sinister and bestial the sphinx’s expressions were throughout the episode. Of course, I first caught them on this site before hearing about Hasbro’s major foul-up and the recorded leak thereafter, but still.
Which is sad, but… logical.
When says “Costs you everything”, though, I liked how they changed her face and mouth, in terms of her animation. I thought that was kinda neat.
Worse: She’s a “one off” villain in a story, entirely narrated by an elderly stallion. And when I say entirely, I mean the poor girl doesn’t have her own voice…Same case with Somnambula.
