I actually blame that particular shipping being canon due to how much it was fanon that Cheerilee and Big Mac would be together. That pairing was a GOOD idea, but it wasn’t surprising. Next came Big Mac and Marble Pie, and while it was a GOOD idea, it was already established that the Pies and Apples MAY be related. That would’ve sparked the inevitable explanation that they AREN’T related, otherwise it’s at least barely incest. Not only that, but releasing a POSSIBLE pairing caused lots of artwork to be made, which in turn put the pairing in the fanon stage, because it wasn’t confirmed. I doubt the developers want to be seen as taking ideas from the audience, unless it’s intentional fan service.
 
I personally felt that Big Mac and Sugar Belle was surprising, but rushed. It felt like it was a forced relationship without any buildup, but I understand why they did it that way.

Also, if she hates learning/school/education that much, then I guess she wouldn’t mind it when Cheery suspends her for a few days, AND tells her parents about how messed up their daughter is. :P
