And just like iRL, they’re getting overlooked in favor of the ones who’re causing problems. The meta in this episode is never-ending.

I think they could have done some really fun things with Spike in this episode, and even though I’m not usually one to complain about his absence, it did seem odd to not have him in an episode that was all about the main characters’ previous adventures. On the other hand, Starlight’s outsider POV came in handy in a couple of scenes. I’m not sure which version would be better, if either; I guess I’m saying that I wished this were a perfect universe where bother versions were available for viewing?

It’s much more common for boycotts to backfire than it is for them to be successful. I wouldn’t worry about Rarity’s business prospects.

I think some are just taking it too personally/seriously. Some tried to claim “Daring Don’t” was anti-critical, and such when it was actually about both Quibble & Dashie learning to respect each other’s opinions, and showing they can still be friends.

That’s why I can distance myself from the mob in the episode. Harassing anypony for art they created sickens me. Maybe it is more about the harassing thing rather than criticism in general? A little unfortunate how the broad brush PonyPon mentioned can cover that up.

Well, I saw those fans. That the talking points were moderate is arguable, because it’s all about how they are being talked about. And the ponies that were making them all represented the extreme fans that either love or hate too pationately.

I think at the end they tried to point out, “Don’t be discouraged, not all your fans are bad,” as this kinda popularity has actually chased some great fanartists, and such out of the fandom, as they go through that too. (Remember all the B.S. Mando went through? Regardless, how you feel about him, his attackers even started hassling, not just him, but the Creber family, and Sibsy, as well, and took it way too far.)

Even when bad fans are a minority, sometimes they tend to be the most outspoken unfortunately. I’ve had moments where I wanted to give up on the brony fandom too, though I try to think back on all the nice people I know who like MLP.

Ironically, I even got attacked by bronies for being a “Sonic fan,” because Sonic fans have a bad rep’ online, yet bronies aren’t perfect either. I saw one try to say all Sonic fans are like “Chris Chan,” to which I was happy to point out that Chan was a MLP-fan before most of us were.

For one thing I said it wasn’t completely lighthearted if you take out completely it changes the meaning of what I said. Two I never said it was only the ugly side, as Beau Skunky pointed out they did show how being overly positive can be just as bad.

Sure maybe the could have handled the ending a bit better and showed more ponies being positively effected by the Journal but, there were clearly some things in the background of the arguing scene that showed other ponies got the message. For instance; one of the ponies holding a sign for Fluttershy was smiling after the song (as were a few other IIRC) and walked away slowly when the arguing started.

But they didn’t show any of those fans, they lifted moderate talking points and wrote them all off like they were those fans.

I liked the episode, up until they shut the door on them.

It felt like a very broad brush they were painting with.

Like I said, nearly all we see is the horrible side. That creates the illusion that this is how the vast majority of anypony invested in the book/episode/show is to be seen. Anypony even talking about anything besides the friendship lesson is part of the problem. There is no middle ground. And I realise that’s for the sake of the joke, but it’s still there.

Ironically, they showed how overly positive fans can be bad for Applejack & Dashie. It wasn’t just “attacking” one side, and it seemed to handle things more comically/playfully. I don’t see how it was “mean-spirited.” I think people are taking it too personally, as I’ve seen other shows like say “Family Guy” attack half the audience much worse.

At least, the episode showed “not all fans are bad,” and it was just an observation, and parody of the downside of popularity. I’m sure many popular fanartists, and such can relate.

I was just agreeing with him when he said that he can’t blame the writers after putting up with this crap for 7 seasons. It might be a bit mean spirited, but it’s one the rare cases where it needed to be.

I don’t see how you can’t see it as mean-spirited. It’s aimed directly at the side of the fanbase that will never be pleased.

And I stress again, there’s nothing wrong with that. It was a great episode that rang too true to some people, and that’s why there’s complaining.

I’m not even angry, honestly. More… vaguely disappointed. I don’t see myself as the one the message is meant for, but I also hate blanket accusations, and it feels a bit like one. Maybe if they had more than just two fillies not be horrible at the end there…

So? Doesn’t mean you actually have a point. Hell, that claim that Spike was gonna be the supporter but got replaced by Starlight is just straight up BS with no source.

The two things I would’ve removed from the story. The first was the fans were boycoting Rarity’s business. I know it happens in fandoms, where they are so adverse to change they just straight up turn on the thing they once loved, but I’m extremely bothered by it from an in-universe perspective. Rarity has worked way too hard to earn her place.

Same can be said about the show staff. They work just as hard as Rarity and get the same exact treatment.

And the second is all the mentions of Daring Doo all over the episode. The idea that RD wrote about the real Daring Do in the journal and they published those entries for all of Equestria to read is a can of worms that should’ve be buried in concrete.

Well as far as we know, Rainbow Dash just wrote that Daring Doo is real. Not that A.K. Yearling is Daring Doo herself. So I think it’s gonna be fine.
