lol this is like an actual dilemma, you can’t keep the system because it is obviously not working… but completely replacing it will cause an outrage from people, because humans don’t like change.
 
I mean can’t you just Limit downvotes? the more often you use them the less you can use per day?

Yes, people were abusing the system. And it required a large amount of moderation time to keep it in check.
 
Since some artists have now stepped forth to let us know how they do appreciate the downvote system, we’re working on a solution to the abuse that doesn’t involve removing Downvotes entirely.
 
The reason we were unaware of those who do appreciate the system, is because people rarely speak up or contact us about parts of the site they feel are working fine/they enjoy. A large amount of user feedback is only when something goes wrong/they dislike something.
 
And in the interest of full disclosure: The announcement and the implementation of the change were not supposed to go out at the same time. The announcement was to be made, and we would then see user feedback on the decision. But due to a miscommunication, both happened at once.
 
So in the end, the current discussion on how to improve the system is what was intended. But a rather large screw-up lead to the explosion of outrage.
