The way I think of it is that Sunset and Starlight each zig where the other zags. Sunset was a really awfully-written villain with a great backstory, but was much more successful in her redemption. Starlight was an excellent villain, but her backstory didn’t support her threat level and her redemption has been met with a more mixed reception.
I’m of the opinion that if Equestria Girls hadn’t been a thing, Sunset and Starlight would have been the same character.
Sunset deserves only the best and most loving treatment. A good time at the beach, a few tasty cocktails, gentle caress and massage and kisses, perhaps a romantic dinner afterwards and a warm love-filled night. Just like with cocktail preferences, she gotta switch to non-virgin with a well-founded full-bodied desire for it.

It’s genuinely difficult to find someone who DOESN’T like best girl, amusingly.
@SeraphimDawn
Starlight’s issue is that the marketing staff saw how successful Sunset was becoming, and wanted to include a version of her arc in the show. Problem was they didn’t get why Sunset’s character arc worked, and forced her to become Sunset Lite with a five minute lead up.
@Brothakyo
Funny, because she started out as a villain whom fans universally hated.
Sunset has been in the situation Starlight is still trying to get herself out of right now.
I could see that. Heck, exactly this.
Just. Holy cow, Sunset is perfect.

Considering the amount of mistrust and abuse she went through to get to this point, Sunny Sunny Sunset deserves all the best and more.
Freaking beautiful, man.

She has it all.

It’s like, no matter who your original favorite character is, Sunset is automatically your personal favorite now, just accept it.
Honestly, she has this sass that most other main characters don’t have.
