So much shipping fodder, yo. And I’ve gotta say, I kind of like how Sombra was used as a kind of “demon at the door” instead of someone the ponies could defeat by hand, adds some variety to the proceedings.
 
AND SO, IT BEGINS.
 

Anyone notice how Sombra’s horn flew off when he died? Maybe hinting at something?

I’m not troubled by the villain now getting anywhere near as much screentime and characterisation as Nightmare Moon, because it’s evident that if we got to know him, we’d also be looking at a bad end.
 
I do wonder if he was killed FOR REAL or just vanished because shadows cannot hide in the light. I’m thinking he’s gone forever.
 
And suddenly, Spike was immortalised in pony history. That is a fantastic honour and achievement for him. I was beginning to feel that the little guy didn’t get the recognition he deserved, but now he’s directly credited within Canterlot Tower.
 
Can you imagine it? Several centuries or so into the future, where ponies will see the stained glass mural and see that a Dragon helped save the Crystal Empire? It could be the dawn of an Era where Dragons are much closer allies to Ponies.

Too much talking, not enough partying.  
 

So now Twilight will be taught black magic by Luna?

i was dissapointed that King Sombra was another generic villain (i was hoping a evil possesion plot) so blast him into nothing was the best thing it could have happened!

Rarijack moment ftw. It was cute.
 
I really enjoyed those episodes.

Enjoyed, and a nice way to kick off a 3rd season.

Maybe now Spike will start getting a little more respect!
 
Still, out of all the season openers, I can’t help but feel this was the weakest. The villain was way more boring then he was built up to be, and not a lot happened for most of the episode. I did doubt it was going to top “Return of Harmony”, but still…
 
It’s certainly not the worst episode ever, but more could have been done I think.

And there goes all the Twilicorn rumors… for now.

Spike was pretty cool in this ep.

Kinda predictable, BUT SPIKE changed all that. XD
