According to our world/reality, yes. But in Equestria, according to the show’s lore, the moon has it’s own glow independent from the sun. Or maybe, the ponies just don’t know that the moon reflects the sun’s rays. I like to think that Celestia grew up, knowing that the moon reflects the sun, but told Luna otherwise to make her feel important.

Our understanding of this whiteboard is far from complete. All those formulas are babby-tier except, possibly, the diffraction one, which was still pretty easy to crack. The true challenges are the integral on the left and the theta-phi relation on the right. We have to keep digging.

It’s cool to see the guys did their mathematical homework. Honestly, it looks like Twilight is explaining that the moon uses light from the sun to emit light. I hope Luna gets mad about this.

I keep thinking that, astrophysics aside, the connection between some of the other equations (specifically the one describing distance between the planes of a hexagonal lattice and Schrödinger’s equation) is related to that item we saw in the prequel comic. 
 
It could fit since the magical item in question is a crystal (although I’m given to understand that malachite in real life tends to form monoclinic rather than hexagonal crystals), and the “bad luck” part of it could be some ability to trigger a wave function collapse that twists results against the user.
