Starlight sucks because she went from evil villain to totally reformed in literally one scene, then spent an entire season being a groveling, miserable, depressing pile of uselessness that couldn’t stop reminding everyone how terrible she was (and inadvertently reminding us all how good Evil Starlight was). Even Diamond Tiara needed an entire episode to be redeemed, and Discord might not truly be reformed even now.
 
She’s been better in S7 though, and if she’s the price we have to pay to get more Trixie and Maud then I can live with that.

Extending analogies doesn’t always work, but given I’ve seen several Glimmer fans running down the rest of the cast, there’s some truth to it in this case.

Interestingly enough, if you take the analogy all the way, it claims Starlight Glimmer fans are rude and judgemental towards characters other than Starlight.

Huh…i think both Sunset and Starlight is flawed in their own way, but I can enjoy the flaws as well as the good points to both of them. They both had a complete 180 turn-to-the-good-side thing happen to them due to magical intervention.

She’s not a Creator’s pet. Heaven forbid after all these years they try to add a new character to develop.
 
If you want to argue Starlight is a Creator’s pet, then why is it acceptable when the Mane 6 make the same mistakes? Why is it acceptable for the Mane 6 to hold the idiot ball for the sake of telling a story?
 
Yes, Starlight’s saved the day a few times. The Mane 6 saved the day on their very first outing. Twilight had been in Ponyville for half a day, at best. They went into the Everfree Forest with no plan, no backup and no idea what they were getting into. You could barely, loosely call them friends. And now, they save the day so often that it’s become a joke. Ponyville expects them to save the day because they always do.
 
Except we don’t really know how they save the day every single time. Brute force and raw power never work. Has everyone forgotten that the changelings defeated the Mane 6 once before? They didn’t win that fight, Cadance and Shining Armor did. The Mane 6 only beat Tirek with Rainbow Power, which hasn’t been seen or explained since. And beating King Sombra was a team effort that they almost lost.
 
The only villains we’ve ever seen the girls beat directly are Nightmare Moon and Discord. Twilight vs Starlight was intended to show how crippled Twilight is without the magic of friendship, without her friends. We have always just accepted Twilight as a magical prodigy, and alicorns are never expressly stated to be supremely powerful beings. Why is it so hard to accept Starlight?
 
Because understanding where she fits requires understanding that alicorns aren’t gods and that Twilight isn’t the only powerful mage around. The people who complain the most are the ones who believe that alicorns are somehow more powerful when all that’s ever been said is that their magic is different. The lore isn’t about RACE, it’s about CUTIE MARKS. Celestia’s talent is moving the sun, a considerable feat. But that doesn’t mean she’s an exceptional mage. The only complex wizardry we’ve ever seen her do is fixing the brainwashing Twilight did to Ponyville, and she was furious then. She subsequently lost to Chrysalis and hasn’t won a fight since. Her only victories are directly tied to the Elements of Harmony.

Again, you’re seeing what you want to see. I’ve seen this a lot. People will twist the events of episodes to suit their own narrative, and they will constantly move the goalposts and use their own criteria just to make sure that they can’t be proven wrong..

What I mean is that she is now the victim of the Creator’s pet trope syndrome, which I hear is just as bad as the “Mary Sue” trope syndrome.
