I also believe that if you put your character in the background of the show, it should perfectly blend in. There´s nothing worse than trying to be different just by giving your character an extreme color, bright stripes or scars, just so it stands out from all the others…
My character may look like a backgroundpony with different hair, slightly different coat color and other cutie mark. So what?

look I’ve seen OCs before that look just like show characters. This is not one of those times.
Ask yourself “how much originality is in original character” when people are confuse this character for existing character from the show so often.

Nah, just characters that bear zero relevance to MLP. “Hei guize this is my ponysona who is a Crystal Gem with Alucard’s powers.”

Placing too much emphasis on the O in oc results in red and back alicorns who are the long lost relatives of celestia/luna
