They’re called “Faustites”. A small portion of the fandom that for the most part doesn’t accept what happens in the show after S2E01/02, AKA anything not written by their God. And they cling onto the hope that someday there will be a 2nd coming.  
They’re characterized by the deep hate for any new alicorns (including OC ones as it also breaks the “there are but two alicorns besides thy God” commandment), characters that break the mane 6 status quo, Equestria Girls (which includes their refusal to accept the fact EqG is canon to the show), and any love interests for their waifus (aside from their own OC’s). They mostly congregate/worship at a certain message board.

@AwkwardLuna: I think it’s more like he’s implying that any hatred towards a certain fan work, or an aspect of it, is hypocritical, regardless of the quality of the fan work, when the ones doing the hating like aspects of any official work that brings that very fan work in mind. If it’s not the aspect itself but how the aspect is executed, the hatred’s a little more understandable. But in the case of something like Past Sins, there’s not many reasons for hating it that ends up being praised when some of its aspects are used in an official work, and rarely does anyone ever list execution as the reason. One of the examples that I can think of that’s an aspect that comes from Past Sins that’s been used in an official MLP: FiM work is Nyx, or more rather, what she’s supposed to be; what she is when you boil it down, i.e. a depiction of Nightmare Moon as a separate entity from Luna. And it’s how that very aspect was used in official works that actually got people (myself included) to like Luna more than they already did before the aspect itself was used in an official work. And in my case, the aforementioned official depiction of Nightmare Moon as a separate entity from Luna also made me like Nyx more than I already did before I even read Past Sins.
 
But of course, no aspect in general is without its vocal minority of haters. Like the aforementioned official depiction of Nightmare Moon as not Luna. There’s a vocal minority that thinks that how the official depiction of that aspect was executed ended up making Luna’s characterization look “weaker”. Despite all of the logical failures that arise when they try to explain why they think that way about how the official depiction of Nightmare Moon as not Luna was executed using facts.

I’m not saying Past Sins is bad, just that the reasons it is “bad” have been used and praised upon. Not just that but the “that would never happen in the show” scenarios have also made it more valid, yet people still cling onto emotion from 2011 rather than facing the fact the show is getting worse. I should probabily stop now, if I tangent any more it’ll backfire on me.

Well, if you’re implying that bad writing on the show somehow excuses bad writing in fan works that’s a flawed argument. Doesn’t matter if the source material isn’t good, a bad fan work is still bad.

If I stated my opinions I’d probabily get banned again so unfortunately I cannot speak my behalf, not here at least.  
Not to mention, opinions are controversial and it seems more and more people are defending Glimmer no matter the charge.

I think most of it is just people memeing from 2011 nostalgia without even knowing why. e.g. rebel without a cause.
 
Any prior valid critism for Nyx and OCs in general has been completely abolished by the show itself. Not to mention a certain unicorn. The only reason I can think of nowadays is “well it’s an OC so let’s hate it”

I honestly don’t understand all the Nyx hate.
 
As far as OCs go she’s far from the worst.
