I drive my own Kenworth 5 days a week, but I can appreciate a good Western Star.

To those wondering what being a trucker is like: the hours are long, the food is expensive and nothing you do is ever appreciated. But the pay isn’t bad and interaction with other people is relatively minimal.

It’s not a job for everyone. It’s not a job just anyone can do. It demands your constant attention and focus, and a lot of patience. Especially around the motoring public, known to us truckers as 4-wheelers, who often show no consideration for the fact that a tractor trailer can weigh 80,000lbs, is hard to stop, and would crush a car like a beer can. Dispatchers are the hated enemy for most drivers, as they get to decide where you go.

For those of you who drive, do truckers a favor. Don’t drive beside us and don’t cut us off. If you want to pass, do so quickly. If your offramp is coming up, please stay behind us until you get there. That little bit of consideration goes a long way. We don’t drive slow on purpose, you know. Shifting 10, 13 or 18 gears is time consuming, and so is pulling a 43000lbs load from a dead stop.

1. We can not stop.  
2. If you can’t see our mirrors, then you’re in our blind spot.  
3. You’ll be in a much much worse place than the trucker if vehicles collide.

   She runs on an RTLO-18918B that has 18 gears. I can’t remember the original transmission that came with her though :P
