>A Mary Sue is flawless.
Do you even have an inkling what the term means? Its a blanket term for poorly written self-insert characters writers come up with. There’s a lot of different criteria that any given mary sue character MAY have, but there is no specific things that all mary sues are.
Common traits include:
Being overpowered. (Glimmer did overpower an alicorn who had vastly more experience and training in using magic and who had defeated several major foes with her magic in the past, so check)
Double points for being overpowered, if the character in question has little or no explanation given for how they got so powerful. (Glimmers back story says nothing about where she learned to use magic the way she does, so again, check.)
Is implausibly skilled. Either one or more skills. (Glimmer modified the time spell to extend the time it could go back from a week to several decades, to allow the caster to bring others along, to stay for however long you want in the past and to allow it to bring people back repeatedly. Twilight was made alicorn for less. Latter, Glimmer combines several different mindcontrol spells on the fly. And again, her background story mentions no advanced training of any kind in magical theory, glimmer specifically did not get to go to the school for gifted unicorns to study advanced magic. Another check.
Further, since most Mary Sue characters are beloved by their creators, they are usually loved by nearly everyone around then, and anyone who specifically does not, is usually singled out by the author to be an exceptionally shitty asshole. Since there is often little reason given for every other character loving the mary sue, this is usually one of the hallmarks of a mary sue character. (Glimmer is given a stern talking to by Twilight and is now instantly fully redeemed without having to atone for nearly destroying multiple timelines, but is now a close friend of all the mane 6 who is loved so much they barely give her cross words after she mindrapes them all for the sake of her convenience… She is also instantly accepted back into the village she was using as a brainwashing gulag while deceiving and oppressing its villagers. They even expect her to lead the summer sun celebrations. Check and double check for glimmer in this category. That Glimmer is angsty about the whole brainwashing thing does not mean this doesn’t apply, since noone else seems to remember it.)
Further categories are stuff like being some unique race or an impossible crossbreed, having magically unique looks, changing hair/eye colours and the like and such. Since they are usually inserted into other writers worlds, the creator of the Mary Sue often goes to silly extremes to make their character extra unique. (This is the only category that Glimmer does not get a check in.)
TL:DR is Glimmer a mary sue? Regardless of which side of the argument you swear to, there is no denying that she does fit a lot of the classic stereotypes of a mary sue, right down to never actually having been beaten. (Twilight had to talk Glimmer down since she could not beat her in a fight)
…sadly ignored or just plain forgotten. Like she’s an entire new character.
Only had three episodes.
One where she overshadowed Twilight and made her look bad, another where she did AGAIN brainwashing to solve her problems, and… okay, the Christmas episode is justified. But then the Opener and Finales gave her FAR more focus than Twilight… Like if she’s the new protagonist or something.
Pot Kettle
Some of us were pretty ok with many changes up to Starlight.
Jarkes, please, @TheNameIsAzureAce is a troll. You can see by the discussion in this image, that is summarized in this comment of mine. Simply ignore. Look at its history. It’s a member for 23 days that has only 12 votes but 69 comments (good part of them trolling), and two uploads that are troll images.
A Mary Sue is flawless. Starlight has SEVERAL flaws.
>shoved down our throats
She literally wasn’t even in half the season. In fact, not counting the premiere and finale, she only had 3 episodes where she was a focus, no more than any of the other characters.
I can point out several holes in your argument, but knowing people like you, you’d just ignore everything I say and keep screaming about how much you hate her.
If you want to see one of those idiots, go look at an Overwatch fantard shill his crappy Tf2/League knockoff while dicking on the superior Battleborn. I can diss Glimmer without “Ordering you to stop liking her”. Unless, of course, your love for her is so weak and ignorant that all I have to do is point out a flaw, permanently reducing your love for her until you’re left with nothing.
