Well, to be honest…
 
They were well-defined, entertaining and powerful villians, with an interesting inter-group dynamic, lots of great lines and jokes, that came close to defeating the Mane Six. They’re the Khan of EQG.
 
You’re interchangable role-fillers in what is at best a c-plot of your movie. You’re klingons bridge crew of the future HMS Bounty.

Probably, which is why I can’t stand these images. Even if I’m a huge Shadowbolt fan, even stuff like this just sounds like two thing. Either it’s someone who is a Dazzling fan trying to say Dazzlings are more loved than the Shadowbolts or what 99.9% of me believes is a Shadowbolt fan that keeps trying to complain that Shadowbolts don’t get a lot of love. I love all five, but images like this are just asking for drama. I don’t fault people for disliking them, but it’s just a pretty annoying to see stuff like this.

Lemon Zest: The fact that she likes sharing her rocker music with Sci-Twi can say a lot about her, one you could infer she gives zero shits about social views or personal space, you wouldn’t share your headphones with someone who others think is a complete loser or someone you’re not close to otherwise. The fact that she just shoves the headphones on her means she’s pushy and has little delicacy.  
I don’t care enough about Indigo, because as I said, she’s like a RD copy. Your argument was that characters like Suri or Lightning should have been used instead, but really, Lightning isn’t that much different than Indigo, they’re bith RD clones with little personality other than being a little rougher. And there are some scenes where Indigo’s character stands out a bit like the confrontation in the gymnasium and on the bus, just because she’s highly competitive doesn’t mean she lacks any personality. Also, competitiveness has nothing to do with athleticism, you can be highly competitive and you can be a total nerd.  
Also, you seem to paint them as completely selfish people, if they were really so concerned only with themselves, they wouldn’t have gone to help the HuMane6 or the other people falling through the portal, and would have tried to run off no different than Cinch. They have a sense of justice at least, and realized that they were being complete assholes and pushed SciTwi too far. They “heel-turned” at the end because they realized how fucking bad it got partly due to their influence, which is honestly no different than any other reformed character.
 
Yes, they are lacking in some parts, but they’re not completely empty as you so claim.

We know that Lemon Zest like loud music, and shares it with Twilight and Vinyl. This could be that she likes to share her music. We don’t know much else beside that, since we don’t know if she shares them to show off or because she thinks others like it as well, or if she likes anything else than music.  
Sunny Flare I couldn’t find a vid of her scene, but she yells something at Twi for Zap pushing her Sunny, so I can’t talk much about her.  
Zap just yells at Twi and is competitive, meaning she’s athletic. We don’t know what sport she likes, just that she’s competitive. At least we know that Dash is into soccer in EQG.  
It doesn’t help that they are suppose to be Anti-Human Six, and that we have to compare them, or their heel-turn at the end, when up until then they were painted to be only concern with themselves.

Look, you can have different opinions, but if you’re going to continuously defend them, then at least have a proper point, “Those are traits, not personalities.” is one of the most ridiculous and illogical argument I’ve heard.

No I don’t try to start fights (or at least I don’t like to think I do), but these characters are one of the reasons I stopped liking the EQG series. I you like them, OK, I just think that these two were handled poorly, and ruined any chance of them being their own characters, worst than Flash since he’s multiple love-interest personality instead of one trait or gimmick.

Lemon doesn’t need any more lines, you can tell what her personality is like just by looking at her “rocking” with her headphones.  
Indigo is like a Rainbow Dash copy I guess, but that’s not much different than Lightning Dust tbh.  
Sunny is seen as snobby and “tactless”, that’s at least some character for her. It’s not like snobbiness alone means she doesn’t have character.

Some of them do show “character” despite their use for the plot.  
Each of them seem to have an individual personality even if it really is only a smidge. Much better than a characters like Flash and Sunset in EQG 1 who were only copy-pastas of the most well known highschool archetypes.
