A botched attempt by a cult to try and recreate Nightmare Moon using her shreds torn from Luna by the Elements of Harmony, combined with blood taken from Twilight Sparkle. The ritual was halfway complete when Celestia interfered leaving “Nightmare Moon” incomplete without any of her memories, her hatred and malice, and created in the body of a young filly. Twilight discovered her and took her in, naming her Nyx after her favorite story about a warrior of the night who protected Ponies from the Monsters that dwelled within the shadows, eventually what was supposed to be an investigation to see if she was indeed a threat to Equestria and a reborn Nightmare Moon like she once feared, Twilight began to see Nyx as her daughter and began to love her.

@Alexlayer: Weeeeelll, there are people who don’t really like Nyx. And I say that as an understatement. But I like your artwork and I think you captured the mother/daughter relationship between Twilight and Nyx.

Forgive me if do not find Twilight Sparkle going against her own canon characterization, common sense, mentor, friends and neighbors as a heartwarming story of a mother and her child.
 
Do you want proof of the quality of the story? Nyx’s bathtime takes more than three paragraphs of description. Twilight’s conversation with Spike in order to convince him not to alert Celestia about what could be a reincarnation of a wicked deity-like being? This:
 
“It had taken a couple hours to finally convince Spike not to write Celestia and tell her about the filly”.

Hey, at least it’s better than say Cupcakes, Rainbow Factory or any of the Grimdark fics because, it does have some pretty dark moments but they’re not too dark and it’s more of a mother and daughter story.

I thought it was good for a coming-of-age story. The ending felt over the top but hey, what are you going to do?

The beginning was good, the mid-way story was something between meh and wt*! and the storyline near the ending and the ending itself was just shit.  
My opinion on it.  
Heard it got a rewrite, haven´t looked at it yet so can´t say if the rewrite made things better or not.  
Just know the original was bad to read.

Me saying the story is good is my own Goddamned opinion, you shithead. It’s not wrong or right, it’s just mine. And honestly speaking the story is just plain fucking good, or at least better than the other shit I see. 98% of the stories that get featured on FIMfiction SUCK so much shit it isn’t even funny, and I’m sure the majority of the stories that get featured on EqD also suck just as hard. Past Sins is like your knee striking gold when you’re wading through a river of shit that’s all the way up to your neck.

The only traumatic thing, is a story sending a foal through a crazy forced adulthood, almost letting her ‘mother’ die in the process, just to later wipe out the mind of the thing so it doesn’t sit in a corner, traumatizised.
 
I fail to see the cute in Past sins. It’s more like a bunch of fanmade drama, and by far, the fic itself spouts just as much Nyxabuse as the haters do, if not more.

It’s more unpopular than it is popular, that’s hardly ‘easily one of the best ever written’.
 
Hell, there are rarely fanfics so bad that they become infamous OUTSIDE of the community and people do readings of them to laugh at how bad they are.
 
So yeah… you’re amazingly wrong. There may be a lot of shitty fanfics in this community (there are a lot of shitty fanfics in ALL communities) but this is definitely one of the shittiest.

Honestly, something that isn’t written by a pre-teen, retard or someone with a low grasp of English rises heads and shoulders above the trash that is fanfics. Searching for fanfics on any fanfic site is like going through a sewer for a diamond: you might find one, but there’s still shit everywhere. Fucking self inserts, copies of famous/infamous fics, unoriginal concepts/characters and dumb as fuck pairings.

One of my favorite fanfics, and easily one of the best ones ever written(let me tell you; there’s a lot of SHIT for fanfics in this community.)
