‘Fire’ant should be a warning enough.
For me it all started in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, when I saved in an area that apparently has a known crash bug. This lead to my character living in a constant loop of going to sleep in a bed from which they never wake from. After that, I never saved indoors for any of Bethesda’s games.
Also, really glad my first day I walked right into Megaton. These guys came later.
I’m a spastic saver now thanks to new vegas crashing and freezing constantly. I was still new to rpg’s and fallout when that happened to me was used to checkpoints and linear worlds at the time, I was 14 years old when I got the game back in 2008.
By Celestia, I forgot about that place. Freaking David thinking he can go set up shop there. That sucks that you had to restart, I usually save before entering new locations. That, and I only save outside of buildings, as I have had files corrupted after saving on a bugged spot.

Fucking old olney, it looks so unassuming and everywhere else is so easy, I saved just as I entered the town and had only been playing for a few days, my last save was after leaving the vault. I couldn’t escape the deathclaws no matter what I did eventually had to load all the way back to my other save and basically restart the game.
