jay is better at expressions, despite his inability to draw chins, and better at “squash and stretch” distortion, making it really look like they’re whacking the things.
 
pencils is better at actually drawing a background, at not forgetting that starlight’s hairstyle changed, at anatomy, composition, suggestive placement of tentacles, perspective and foreshortening, and action lines.
 
it’s an interesting comparison, and should show both jay and pencils what they can do to improve their own work.

Now this just makes me wonder why it actually came to him having to make an entire issue of art in just 6 days.
 
Altho even with that when you compare Pencils’s line art with something like that Daring comic, even then it gets outclassed easy.

Reminds me of the time someone did a better version of human Sunset coming through the portal for the very first time than the one in the comics.

An older post I found about the CMC-Luna issue also says it took him 6 days in a row to complete. Seems like this could be the normal amount of time it takes for him. I’ll see if I can find data on a third issue.

Actually, after doing some digging, I found a facebook post by Fosgitt himself saying he was only given 6 days to do the issue, not a whole month. And during that 6 days he also had non-pony work to do as well.

From other sources it takes around a month to draw an IDW comic without colors. Pencils admitted if he tried he could easily do 2-3 pages a day. More than enough to fill a comic quota. All he’d need is a good colorist and bam.

Ok, but what about the page on the left? Unless there is also a source saying how long it took to draw then it’s hard to really make a fair comparison about anything other than what it looks like.

If you bothered to look at the source it took Pencils a total of 3-4 hours.
 
Even then the time between the request and the post on 4chan was merely 1 day.

Budget constraints? I was not aware that a pen and paper is that expensive.

A 22-page commercial product made under time and budget constraints isn’t as good as a deliberate attempt to one-up it that could take as long as it needed and only consists of a single page so as to not fatigue the artist?

Damn, Pencil’s Spike looks like he’s enjoying himself.

Let’s see:  
The claws look more badass than any official media has depicted them.  
I admire the willpower it must have taken to add on to the tentacles scene without making it “sufficiently lewd” out of habit.  
And as a comment on the content, the spell sounds so much like the lyrics to a pop song I can hear the composition.
