“Uh, Yes please.”
You realize that you’re curious about her leg because you may be able to escape the pain in your wing with a prosthetic one… but you’re not ready to admit that to anyone else. A pegasus with broken wings is… well, barely a pegasus at all. As of now you can fly, but, your wing becomes stiff if you use it for too long, it’s embarrassing.
You take a seat on Tyra’s chair before she give you a cup of hot tea and takes a seat on her couch.
“Thank you. Well, I guess for starters, how much do augments like yours cost these days? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“No, it’s fine. This thing cost about 20,000 bits. pretty much most of what I got when I sued my old boss, but I guess that The leg was really all I wanted out of the him anyway.”
“That’s a lot.”
She laughs a little nervously, “yeah This is a low end one too.”
“Low end? is it something that can be upgraded once they install it?”
She winces a bit, “Install… I guess I could get it upgraded if I had the money to spend on a better one or wanted to. I mean, they can still separate the nerve endings and attack them to different hardware.”
“What was the actual surgery like?”
“Well, they put me out though the entire process so, it’s hard to say, but when I woke up they had me do some physical therapy and systems tests for about three days and then I was free to go. Pretty painless process really.”
“How long have you had that leg anyway?”
Tyra Looks at the ceiling as she thinks about how much time has passed, “Umm, I think it’s been five? years since my accident.”
“So does anything wear out on it?”
“Weren’t you just interested In getting cyberspace jacks?”
You nervously laugh a bit.
“Yeah, I guess I just got a bit curious. I’m sorry.”
“No, it’s fine. I just don’t usually talk about myself.”
She puts her leg on the coffee table in front of her, “The rubber boots wear out, so I have to replace them every few months and sometime it gets a bit stiff, and I have to lube the moving parts.”
“I see, can you feel it?”
“The leg?”
“Yeah, I mean can you feel it touch things or do you have phantom pains?”
“Oh, well… Those phantom pains… Sometimes, it feels like there’s something still there. It’s not often though. As far as actual sensation in it? There are some higher end ones that I’ve heard feel like a natural organic leg, with contact sensitivity and all but mine only lets me feel pressure on the bottom of the hoof part. I really didn’t need one of the higher end ones and from what I’ve heard, the more advanced ones need more maintenance to maintain which, You need to have a technician take care of. I’d really rather be able to take care of my own body, even if part of it isn’t what I was born with.”
“I guess that kind of attitude is why you’re so quick on getting things fixed in your building.”
She smiles at you, “Thanks, I try to keep this place nice because I refuse to let my building become a slum.”
“Honestly I choose to live here because you’re one of the few places with a garage. Your quick maintenance when things break is just an added bonus.”
“You know I don’t fix everything myself right?”
“Yeah, but you do a lot of the work.”
“That’s true I guess. You know I’m a bit surprised that you came just to talk, You’ve always seemed kind of like a shut in Cold File. I don’t think we’ve ever really talked before.”
“Hey, I get out!”
“Yeah, I’ve seen you drag things back in too. You’ve just always seemed a little closed off, I guess.”
