It’s best assumed any scientific anomalies that break the laws of physics are best explained by the magical nature of their universe. It’s explained in Equestria Girls that Equestria’s world works very differently from the human world.
It’s either that, or the writers just don’t give a frick

There’s still the fact that the sun is at most a light second from the planet given it’s shown to be movable moved near instantaneously. And we’ve seen them eclipse and in the same skyline as opposed to opposite sides. If they can control them such that the gravity shift aren’t destructive, or with such power they can move them at FTL, why not just push the “moon” out of orbit to make things simpler in the long run?
Intreating idea, but adding this realism just raises much questions than it answers, with the handwave of physics no longer applying defeating the point of trying to apply them here.

While originally, I imagined the Moon magically “contained” all the neutron star’s gravity, later versions of this set-up I’ve used elsewhere recast the Moon as some sort of “handle” while the neutron star is equidistant from the planet as the Sun.

I always had an impression that the Equestrian system is geocentric. Also, the Moon and Sun would be equal there. But I’ve never really thought of a neutron star. 😕
