It really is quite expansive. Part of that’s because macrophilia and microphilia tie in perfectly with a lot of other fetishes, some strange and some more common. However, even purely in macro/micro alone there’s a good bit of diversity. As people prefer different scales. Some like more akin to just size difference with one individual being only a couple feet taller. Some like a kaiju-sized difference between characters, and some like planet sized and even larger.

Personally I tend to prefer an amazonian fifteen feet to a kaiju-esque three hundred or so. But I can get behind plenty of other sizes. The key thing for me is that the giant and the tiny can interact someway. And on the note of you and Bigladiesman’s prefence…well is there any place more comfortable or intimate than those two areas? They’d both make excellent bedrooms at that.

I’m a huge macro fan, I stated it when this pic was first released, and I still think this is pretty accurate. Most of all, doing macro RP make me cringe (“Yo crusch meh if u bisit mah citi ur hot lolwut roflmao”) and to think when I was 19-20 I was one of them![Then there was a huge fiasco with a remarkable and very active member of the community who was pretty popular and many of we stopped RPing once and for good, not only on the community, but elsewere. I don’t even do it here!]

Well everybody has their own tastes, so I won’t bash yours. But I think most people’s problem with this is the idea of someone completely changing how they act because of a sudden difference in size. While that is possible in some circumstances it occurs so much in macrophilic and microphilic works, normally executed poorly at that, that most people who aren’t trying to get off right at that moment don’t enjoy it anymore.

On another note, only partially related, I find the idea of giants recognizing smaller individuals as bugs or immediately worthless strange. We react to bugs with a kill first instinct. But part of that is because we consider them disgusting and alien. If you found a tiny human, or in this case if a giant pony met a normal pony, your reaction wouldn’t be the same. Because unless the individual is so small they’re a speck you will recognize that they don’t look like a bug, they look like a human (or in this case a pony). Which would trigger curiosity at the very least, if not sympathy.

I’m not saying a larger individual wouldn’t take advantage of a smaller one, but normally this trope is executed so poorly with no explanation at all. It could be done way better. And in this case, being around someone you are close to, but who is suddenly so much smaller than you? It definitely doesn’t make much sense.

Though, for the sake of being objective, it should also be noted that I do prefer a positive relationship between a giant individual and a smaller one. So it’s not like I’m devoid of bias here.

The pic nails it with the trope.
But, seeing how comments are all bashing this trope, I’ll just have to go and protect it
Of course a lot of macro stuff is ooc. This is actually one of the macro appeals for me.
The way you are treated and the value of your life being dependant on your size. And every single other factor being ignored just because one person suddenly starts holding much more power.
I actually think this is why this trope is used that often to begin with.

I remember this macro fic from a while ago called “Twilight’s Diet” where she tries to go on a diet but has a dream where she keeps eating everything until she consumes the whole world. I think what keeps that more tolerable is that:
A) it was just a dream.
B) It may have been a reference to a Garfield comic strip that I remember reading back when I was hooked on Garfield (I remember it was one of the Sunday strips from 1987).

Some book on world building for sci fi authors.

The reason is that the weight per area of an object goes up the bigger it is. If you try to build a 3x3x3 cube out of rods, you need rods that are 3 (whatever unit) long. If you try to build a 30x30x30 cube out of rods, you need rods that are 30 (whatever unit) long, and each little slice of rod will have 10x the weight acting on it.

Once you get to enormous scales, the amount of weight acting on each unit of area is enough to deform and break the material.

That’s why it’s so hard and impressive to build tall buildings, and why they needed to invent steel to build skyscrapers. It’s also why tiny ants are so strong for their size, and why exoskeletons work on ants, insects, and small arachnids and thin, lanky crabs, but not so well on something the size of a human.

So, roughly speaking, if Twi is 10x bigger, then she may get 100x stronger, but she carries 1000x her weight - very roughly speaking.

I’d say they’re a fetish for me in its overall definition of ‘really like that thing’. For me, it kinda depends on the context of the “gentle giant” picture and the specific size of the pone to whether it’d be a sexual kind of thing or not.

Macro images aren’t a fetish for me, I just find them intriguing for a few reasons.
A) The show hasn’t really had a story where the main characters become giants (except for Secret Of My Excess, but that was part-transformation)
B) Seeing their personalities contrast with a tiny world (or at least tiny to them) is an interesting dynamic
C) There are many different scales of macro ponies- Amazon, typical giantess, city size, planet size, etc
D) Could you imagine the size of them plots?
Just kidding about the last one, but in all seriousness, the more sexual ones are the ones I’m neutral to.
