Only for users with nicknames :P. BPs can’t physically have more than 65536 combinations (if you use nickname hash as a seed, of course.).

I kinda liked how the old one, even though I guess it’s Lyra’s silhouette, was ambiguous enough that it could be a filly or foal, where the new random ones are definitely all* mares.
 
*Well, to be truthful, I can’t swear to have seen all possible combinations.

That’s why the new ones face right (that was actually DoublePipe’s idea) - they’re facing the comments so they look like they’re talking.
 
As for the old one? No clue.

What I don’t get is why this one faces left?  
I make it a habit to have my avatar face the comment, which is usually to the right.

It’s worth noting too that this wasn’t exactly the original default either. It was initially a 125x125 PNG file. The SVG version was added about a year ago.
