Perhaps the forms they gained after transforming are based on their specialties. Smarties have horns, tough guys have wings, fun-loving bugs are hornless and wingless with increased strength and durability, those with leadership skills and determination are buggicorns. I call it the Ninja Turtles classification system for Joestar Changelings. :3

ALSO, notice how the wing protectors OVERLAP the base and 1 inch of the tail when folded. Do you see another other shell that is sticking out 1 inch away from the character’s flank? No, the rest of the shells, assumingly are the length of the spinal region. Stopping directly at the flank and the tail is held up at somewhat a 90 degree angle too. If it had wing protectors it would be 75 degree, which I also point out IS THE FOREGROUND Changeling that has this said 75 degree angled tail and ‘extended’ shell.

To answer all of your ideals of which has wings or not. Notice that some of the changelings have a THIRD shell streak, right between the wing protectors, which I point out are the very front changedling and the alicorn one. mostly the very front. If you just a bit behind it’s neck, you see that there are three streaks. Meaning, a BACK SHELL, AND A SET OF WING PROTECTORS FOR EACH WING. Now look at one of the other changelings. They are equipped with just the shell covering I pointed out to be found RIGHT BEHIND the neck of the closest most changeling to the foreground. And they don’t have a additional, somewhat separated set of wing protectors. Thus confirming that there are 3 alicorn changelings, 2 Unicorn, 1 Pegasus and one earth in the screenshot.

Look closely at their backs you can see the divide of the forewing also similar changedling types can be see flying except for those rhinos.

Ah. I asked because simply by appearances, changelings seem stronger than ponies in a few ways; both versions, and while I know not if changelings were directly inspired by flutterponies when Faust and/or McCarthy created them (I’m guessing, both are likely wrong, lol), they obviously share some characteristics. Besides the bug thing, they appear to have their own unique magicks, like the Utter Flutter and the null field, and if I could guess, Mega Evolved Changelings probably auto-generate love, like extra-extra-extra-miniature walking Crystal Empires, presumably so long as they remain happy. If these sorts of things turn out to be somewhat applicable, then we should thank fuck they’re no longer evil. X3

I really liked the changelings as they were before. Some of them would get more or less lucky with leg holes and their placements (too many leg holes and you fall apart when you stand up).

Well, what I see in the rest of the final episode. I can see 4 type of New Changeling so far.
 
Changeling with no wing and horn (In the scene. They didn’t seem to fly at all until story end. Always stay on ground)  
Changeling with horn (In the scene. They didn’t seem to fly at all until story end. Always stay on ground)  
Changeling with wing (We can clearly see one Changeling without horn fly in the air)  
Changeling with wing and horn (We see so many of this type also)  
Changeling with wing, horn and antler(King Thorax).
 
Aren’t they resemble of Earth_Pony, Unicorn, Pegasus and Alicorn?
