Alas poor Discord, he was never very good at letting go of things. What was he to do when his first and dearest friend was ready to depart to greener pastures? Bringing back the dead was something even he knew was not allowed. But what about sticking the soul into something more…durable? It would be perfect, as soon as something broke all he had to do was to cut it off and replace it. Good as new.
In time he’d have the biggest collection of friends ever!

Yah this does seem like something he’d do, most likely thinking he’s helping them do to his naivety about certain things.
I mean that it makes sense for him if he loses his friend. I could have worded it much better.
I’m sure even he will crack eventually, after all he does care about her, and I’m sure some part of him knows the truth of the state she’s in, it’s only a matter of time before his “sanity” shatters

This is a bad ending for both. And is terrifying.
If you feel pity for Discord because he reverted to the selfish insensitive monster he used to be before learning about the value of friendship, then you’re absolutely right.

If the crying was removed, we wouldn’t have any insight on Fluttershy’s feelings about her predicament. She could be genuinely happy or brainwashed into it for all we know. Here, the tears make it unambiguous.

I think the artist meant to convey horror rather than tragedy in this picture. Still, that’s an interesting idea you’ve got.
It would be a realization that he can’t extend the longevity of life between his friends and he’s unable to accept that until he does the unthinkable.

They said not to tamper with souls, but he didn’t listen.
Well, the bitter part significantly outweighs the sweet part for me (especially as that one is only due to Discord being selfish and refusing to let go, when Fluttershy would rather pass on than remain trapped in this inanimate, miserable existence forever).
For added horror, it seems that Fluttershy is only the first pony to suffer that fate, with many others to follow soon.
Plz Discord. No haunted puppets. Plz.
The description. Discord sealed Fluttershy into a marionette because he didn’t want her to pass on in death. Sweet because he kept his first friend, bitter because our poor pony’s soul is forever trapped in a wooden prison.
