Emerald did say they were setting up camp, but it’s more like Joyride unfurled her house, and then Ruby and Joyride went inside. Loupe and Nishan stay out however, and quickly build a little firepit near the house.
 
As the zebra gets the fire going, Emerald comes and sits next to her. She gives him a glance, but doesn’t do much more than that.
 
Emerald asks her about the wasps.
 
“Terrible creatures, but unfortunately necessary.” is her reply.
 
Emerald asks what she means, and Loupe, who is sitting on a log across from them, answers,
 
“They are a vital part of the ecosystem in this part of the jungle! They pollinate many of the plants in their territory, and also keep out most of the largest predators, giving the creatures lower on the food chain a small place to rest. Well, assuming they aren’t found by the wasps of course.”
 
Emerald asks how long they’ve been working together.
 
“A few months now. I must admit I wasn’t much into it at first, but there are a lot of silly, rich ponies who want tours around the Zebra Lands.” Nishan says, finally giving the colt a smirk.
 
“I-I originally came down with a professor to learn more about the biological systems of the area, and well… I just couldn’t leave! I’m technically on an extended study project.” Loupe says, with a slight giggle.
 
Suddenly the words “pump and dump” come back into Emerald’s head. Maybe he can try to win the heart of one of these fair maidens. Or, you know. He could also not. Whatever is cool.
