There are 2 types of crack shipping in fandoms, there are those that are made out of genuine aspirations that X would make a great partner to Y that are for better or worse depending on who you ask vastly underappreciated by the rest of the fandom. And then there are pairings that are purely made as nothing more than a Joke.
 
In my opinion this is the former. And I happen to like it.

That’s the first time I’ve ever seen Maud clearly looking happy. Are we sure she hasn’t secretly been replaced by a changeling?

Epilog:  
Thorax and Maud establish their own rock farm and worked hard day and night. With the time other changelings, who flew from Queen Chrysalis tyranny, came to their rock farm, settled in the mines and helped the unusual couple farming. Many hears later the rock farming changelings and their high quality rocks and gems were known in all of Equestria.
