You do realize that this could simply be a misunderstanding by Rarity in the show, right?
 
There were 3 potential categories to place in. Maybe Rarity got 2nd in style but Derpy got first in either speed or traditional design. It is possible that Applejack wasn’t part of their class and wasn’t there to take the traditional design ribbon and Rainbow Dash was in Cloudsdale for the speed ribbon to be obtainable here.

Well, if you still remember the earlier seasons, it was pretty clear she had quite serious disabilities seeing from all the stuff she has ruined by not being able to fly straight or hold stuff… She has been also shown to exhibit signs of speech impalement (got cut out after crybabies made an uproar about it) and has trouble understanding what she is being said, what’s with her leading the birds North for the uptenth time. You know, people with normal intelligence usually have the ability to learn on their mistakes, but Derpy doesn’t.
 
She is a disabled person, and by all rights deserves a normal life like any of us do. A job (albeit an easy one where she can’t hurt others), funding from the government, a chance to meet her special somepony - all is fine. But when people make a super hero out of her, or portray her in a way that makes her better than anyone else, or treat her unfairly by giving her a huge bonus… it just annoys me, a lot. And the writers were trying to make her less “disabled” ever since bronies nearly sued them for portraying disabled people in a manner that was meant as a cheap joke material, so in a sense fans killed the real Derpy and substituted her by their own interpretation of her. And right now, you can see the Derpy that was created by fans, right on this image.

I know it is a joke, but it is a really mean joke that shows the nature of such things. believe me or not, but I’ve dealt with disabled people in my life and seen how others give them kindness and other bonuses… These people soon notice this things and just start abusing their status by acting and manipulating others with purpose of easily getting something that would require a lot of effort from any other person. This is no joking matter IMO. I have a copy of my original message and I didn’t even offend Derpy or her fans in it, there was literally nothing worth deleting there except maybe an unpopular opinion that someone didn’t want to see on this site.

You know what I dislike? When people are treated unfairly.
 
It is the same way like feminists - they want to be paid like men do but work half as much, or they want to remove all the gender-specific limitations (the few that are left) but keep all the benefits like all the special attention, extended leaves and so on. The same way here, people want to have people with disabilities treated the same way like any other person would, and I don’t mind it. But when I see these people also get the favoritism and all the other positive stuff for being disabled, I am starting to wonder if I shouldn’t have bothered with being nice.
 
Tell me, how the hell is this a fair competition? How did she win? For what qualities has Derpy been chosen as the mascot other for being a disabled pone? This is all so unfair, all the treatment she gets and stuff, this is what I dislike. Just decided to make myself clear about why the inequality and unfair treatment shown in this scene matters so much to me. Anyway, I am done now and hope we can keep this civil, not like arguing over it is going to change anything.
