Fairly sure she was in the royal guard at one point. I believe Sunbutt referred to her as “General Quarts” on a previous page. She’s probably used to fighting giant insects.

Pencils’s Equestria is basically Dwarf Fortress: the deeper underground you delve the more likely you’ll get your face torn off by something from H. R. Giger’s sketchbook. The Pies must be tough as nails to have survived this long as a mining family.

That part makes sense: lakes spread their mass evenly, while the beast puts great pressure on a small area. But the lake disappearing is all Anon’s fault: he cracked the ground allowing the water to drain, possibly through an existing weak spot, into the caves beneath. This has happened in real life too.
 
The whole farm probably won’t collapse, though very heavy mined areas over long periods of time can indeed become structurally unsafe - pits and shafts criss-crossing in every direction weaken the ground. If you ever see the ground sagging downwards where it wasn’t before, stay clear and call somebody. Could be a hundred-foot shaft underneath that’s not on any map.
