I think that is the exact explanation the toy designer gave as his “what if?” but I guess we’ll see.

It was pretty keen to call him “big Spike” and not adult Spike. One would assume that if this is a result of controlling greed growth, he has another form as he ages. Who knows?
 
This is badass, by the way.

I DO so hope Spike learns to control his Greed Growth and gets this ability to “hulk out”. This would let him still be the adorable buttmonkey, but give him moments of being incredibly helpful to the plot.
This is exactly what I’m hoping for.
 
Though like I’ve said before, for me this design only really works when he’s bigger.  
This is barely bigger than his teenage size, and yet its his adult deisgn. Its weird.  
Either give him an actual teenage design for this size, or keep the design but have him grow into adult size.
