I don't think you're giving Original Cadance enough credit. She broke Shining Armor out of his brainwashing and beat Chrysalis after both Celestia *and* the Mane Six failed, kept Sombra out of the Crystal Empire on her own until they found the Crystal Heart, horn-lasered the hell out of the Tatzlwurm, and has thus far managed to keep Flurry Heart from killing anypony important. And she certainly doesn't share Celestia's share Celestia's unfortunate habit of being used as a punching bag every third two-parter. The only time she got beaten on-screen is by Tempest, who got in a cheap shot, and she *still* managed to put up a better defense than Celestia or Luna did.
