I'm honestly expecting that if anyone expects to build us a new home some where, and actually expect to come back to the earth every once in a while, it's going to have to be the moon or a space station.
Although I really like the idea of capturing asteroids and trying as gently as we can to park them in a safe orbit between the earth and the moon, and mine the heck out of those things.
Btw I hear that the moon is littered in radioactive material that would could possibly use to power nuclear reactors.

Really weak gravity. Stronger than the moon's, but would be able to jump a lot higher than usual.

Yeah, for gravity similar to ours, you'd have to go to either Uranus, Neptune, or Venus. Except Uranus and Neptune are gas giants, no solid ground there. And Venus has an atmosphere of sulphuric acid and poisonous hydrogen sulphide gas at 400 Celsius in the shade. :P
Mercury and Mars have almost identical gravities, but obviously Mars could be made habitable considerably more easily than Mercury.

For near-future colonisation of space our best choices of destination, in order of increasing distance from us, are:
Space stations
The Moon
Mars
The Asteroid Belt (particularly Ceres)
Jovian moons (particularly Europa, Ganymede and Callisto)
Saturnian moons (particularly Titan)
Uranian moons
Neptunian moons (particularly Triton)
Pluto and Charon
The Kuiper Belt
The Oort Cloud (face it, basically a natural Dyson Swarm)
and then out of the solar system altogether. Some of thee may become more or less likely with further examination down the track. xD

So ignoring the bit about high radiation and no atmosphere, Mars would be a great place for extreme sports! Alright if they can pull it off, Mars should be the next Australia!

"It is likely that some of the early Martian atmosphere has been lost to space because Mars, like Venus has no substantial intrinsic magnetic field to protect the atmosphere from solar wind scavenging."
Wow! Science is fascinating! Also I have strong doubts that Mars would be any better place to live than any other large rock circling around the sun.

@Dirty Bit
I'd have to re-read my history of when European kingdoms were colonizing different places, but I think back then putting people on ships to find new worlds and profit and exploit them were kinda one way trips.
But I really like the idea of putting criminals on ships and loosely aiming it in Mars general direction…
But if they manage to establish a successful colony on a planet with little to no atmosphere or ozone layer, more power to them!
Btw I wonder what kind of magnetic field does Mars have…

Nah, I was just thinking of the odds of people trying to colonize Mars turning out to be the same as Australia when you mentioned starting your own country.

We would all become worthless, weak, emotional pussies. It's already happening in the U.S. military and the firefighters, so don't worry, we'll all suck in no time!

Humans become more neotenous, not more feminine. Feminine physical features are neotenous as a general rule simply by virtue of being softer and rounder, but the two are not interchangeable. Neoteny (not femininity) is the secret behind human's intelligence. Also our lack of hair. That neoteny and intelligence are linked should be a hint that it's neoteny and not femininity that produced that result.

Neoteny, by the way, is the goal of domestication. Dogs are just neotenous wolves, and the SibFox experiment managed to produce domesticated foxes by selecting for neoteny.

When it comes right down to it, there are a few specific hormones involved in this process. Testosterone is not one of them. They came to the conclusion that it was a reduction in testosterone by misclassifying neotenous traits as feminine.

So I wonder what would happen if you take away all of the testosterone from women and men and fill them up entirely with nothing but estrogen?
