Okay, fine. Using a football player was a bad idea since football is king in America. But still, more are more likely to side with the smaller person standing up for themselves than the one that has the obvious physical advantage. Especially when it comes to the world of fiction.

It’s due to the fact that men are generally larger and stronger. The former is usually a case of a smaller person getting a creepy, larger, stronger person away from them. The second is usually the larger, stronger person choosing to be violent against someone physically weaker.
 
Similarly if a scrawny computer nerd punched a football player because he was getting bullied, people would side with him. If the large football player punched the scrawny nerd for teasing him, people wouldn’t side with football player.
 
Public favor will usually side with the one that seems weaker at first glance, regardless of specific context.

Though in Zephyr’s case, he deserved every beating.

I slapped a woman who wouldn’t get the message. She WOULD NOT get the message, after hours of me declining. She escalated her advances (began touching me you-know-where), which is when enough was enough. My patience was gone a long time before that happened.
 
Needless to say, I was kicked out of the club and charged with assault.

Zephyr was asking for it. Seems a lot of people think he was just being annoying, but his treatment of Dash was sexual harassment. Continual verbal and physical advances towards someone that clearly does not want such treatment is wrong.

Rainbow Dash used Iron Tail! It’s super effective!

In the beginning of the episode, dash is with fluttershy to spend quiet time away from work. No quieter place than with fluttershys parents, fluttershy has her animals. So flutters parents would be super quiet but then this idiot shows up trying to hit on her. Dash is if anything attracted to other mares, OR ponies who are amazing flyers like wonderbolts.
