I agree, the idea amuses me and, well, he isn’t doing an endurance race or needing to show off, his job is to follow lead and procedure of a show, flying in formation, doing acts that aren’t fast but showy, like flying close enough to each other less trained pegasi would crash.
 
If anything, it would make him a better flyer as a group member, more willing to be a follower not so much as the leader. Plus there is a real reason Soarin’ was likely really happy to get pie and in part is why geldings tend to lack the ‘stamina’ that full stallions do. When a male is castrated, it’s far easier for them to put on weight so they need to exercise more and avoid having as many sweets otherwise they get fat all the faster since there is more estrogen flowing through the body, which would explain why he was so attached to that pie, he doesn’t get sweets that often and why he got so emotional over it. ;D
