@Talthos
Yes but not EVERYTHING in the wilderness is appreciable like racoons with rabbies attacking you, mosquitos, cold, heat, wind, etc…
I see your point but you seem to miss this perspective : ‘tia clears what’s displeasing in the nature to then admire the relaxing potential of what’s left.
@I Was Never Here
Yeah, guess I was. It’s just that it seemed like Jester was advocating self-harm of a sorts, and that does not sit well with me. Relativism, nihilistic or not, does not erase objective harm.
@Darth Sonic
I kinda feel like that’s besides the point here.
I personally feel that the fields of psychology have made great inroads in understanding how the human mind works, despite not always understanding why it works the way it does. Neuroscience is getting to the point where it is able to independently verify or decry many tenets of psychology as fact or fiction.
You’re kinda just begging the question here, I think.
@Jester Hell
The only thing I really disagree with here, that I care to mention, is the implication that field of psychology as a whole is a pseudo science. I would posit that it is, in many cases, a non-empirical science in the same way that a lot of astrophysics is non-empirical. The points made are based on the most logical assumptions that very intelligent, experienced, and dedicated can craft and while in many cases not explicitly verifiable aren’t unscientific by nature.
@Jester Hell
Okay, let me ask you a question: if all psychologists and therapists suddenly disappear, and some omnipotent being stopped us from ever reestablishing the fields, wouldn’t the world be a worse place?
Until neuroscience develops into what you want it to be, psychology is all we got. They still play a vital service to society. So that still means there is something there.
I should point out that I’m a relativistic nihilist and I only think of physics, chemistry and biology as real science.
What constitute “healthy” psychology is subjective imho because I don’t think psychology is real science just a pseudoscience.
For instance psychology put sociopaths and psychopaths in the same category ASPD(anti-social personality disorder) but one is sociological with evidence that it developed during childhood (sociopath) and the other has evidence of being biological in nature, inherent to the persons brain (psychopath), neuroscience found this out not psychology.
As such I see psychopathy as a biological birth defect and sociopath as a differing outlook but not a metal defect, recent studies suggest that there are many “high-functioning” sociopaths in modern society and that they are not a threat in the same way a psychopath is and yet psychologist treat them as being mostly the same thing which is why I think of it as a pseudoscience.
Neuroscience is real, being based in biology, but that’s still in its infancy and has yet to reach the stage of objective truths.
TL;DR
As Nietzsche once said “You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist.”
@Jester Hell
That’s… objectively unhealthy. Like, this isn’t a matter of philosophy anymore. Science is telling you your wrong.
To clarify, I’m talking about just you here. What you do or don’t do with your friends is between you and yours and I was just giving you a hard time with that.
My friends live to far for that type of thing and if your a neighbor then you’ve just declared war, I hope you have the free time to engage in such an endeavor because I’ll make the time for it…
Nobody who knows me would expect emotional support from me, I don’t do that type of “sharing”, I’m old school, “drink a cup of concrete and harden the fuck up” is the mentality I was raised on… you bottle that shit up until you suffer a total breakdown and then you suck it back up.
@Jester Hell
“Can I take a dump in your toilet? I lost that too.”
Jester: ::closes door::
“Guess I’ll just take a dump right here on your doorstep. Bombs away~”
I locked the door and called the fire department myself when my neighbors house was on fire, there was no chance that they where coming inside, I’m both an introvert and an isolationist and if I could I would live in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors but I need a job for money and access to food which requires me to live in the suburbs…
@Darth Sonic
Friend 1: “Can I at least use your phone to call the fire department? The house is still sorta burning down…”
Jester: [Multiple door locking noises.]
@Darth Sonic
Friend 1:“My house just burned down due to a sudden toaster mutiny. Can I stay the night?”
Jester:[monotone]“Do you have an appointment?”
Friend 1:“uhhh… No?”
Jester: [Slowly closes door.]
@seralth
If the leader of my country showed up I’d close the door in his face and lock it, My door is not open to walk-ins, if you want to come over you have to make an appointment and that go’s for everyone including friends and family.
I like how Luna just rolls her eyes as she listens to Celestia praise the countryside.
“Maybe it is the lack of order that makes it feel like you don’t need to uphold it so meticulously yourself”
Y’know, I have to agree with that. While order certainly has its advantages, you have to go through the stresses of maintaining it, but when you just let things go and take things as they come, it can be so relaxing…
