Chapter 25 begins!

Emerald thanks Ruby for the compliment, but reminds her that they should stick together because things might get pretty dangerous.
“Well that shouldn’t be so hard. I kinda just want to-”
“Hey, what are you kids doing here?” A pirate says from behind them, causing them to turn around. Here is carrying several brown packs around him, and he eyes the two curiously.
Emerald tries to stammer out something, but Ruby says, “You guys are going to fire the cannons soon right? Can we watch?”
The pirate rolls his eyes in annoyance and says, “Fine, whatever. Just stay out of the way, alright?”
He starts to walk in the room, and then he turns back and says, “Actually, since you are probably going to be in the way no matter what, do you want to help out?”
Emerald starts to decline the offer, but Ruby springs up and says excitedly, “Yeah!”
“Okay, you are going to be our little powder runner. For obvious reasons we keep the powder away from the cannons until we need it. You are going to help me run it up and down the stairs, alright?”
The pony drops his load near one of the cannons and starts to walk back towards the two.
“What’s your name, boy?” The pirate says.
“Ruby, and I’m a filly.” Ruby says indignant.
“Huh, really?” The pirate says with a midly surprised voice.
“And yours, girl?” The pirate says, looking to Emerald.
Emerald says that he is in fact, a colt.
“Then why are you wearing a dress?” The pirate says with a small chuckle.
Emerald remarks that it’s a mantle.
“Whatever. Come on you two.” The pirate says, starting to walk downstairs. Ruby follows close behind him.
Well, so much for sticking together. Emerald doesn’t really care to be near the cannons himself. He feels like that might be a rather dangerous place to be. On the other hand, maybe it’s still better to stick to Ruby’s side.
