All that line means is that Twilight isn’t the mommy that he was dreaming about (probably an imagined dragon mother). It doesn’t mean he doesn’t consider Twilight to be his adopted mother (or Celestia, for that matter).

Aside form the fact that the IDW comics are notoriously out-of-sync with the show, it implies that Spike is seen as a pet, not a person, forcing the dog angle from the EG show and also meaning that, due to equal caretaking, and Spike not viewing twilight as mom, it would mean that he also doesn’t view celestia as his mother, making the “you’re not mommy” line a bit worse to think about.

part time caretaker, maybe, but certainly not mother, otherwise the “You’re not mommy” line in winter wrapup is more than a little eschewed.

It always felt ridiculous to me of the idea of Twilight being the primary caretaker for Spike during his early years. Considerning how young she is + how little Equestria knows of dragons.
Was it me? I once said it would be cool if they made it clear Celestia was raising Spike because that was Lauren’s own explanation and I always thought it made the most sense.
Implication that Celestia is one of the primary caretakers?
Detail that Twilight, while being made responsible, isn’t the primary or sole caretaker?
I’m filled with this thing… this… uplifting… light feeling.
