@Meso Echo: To say nothing of the fact that official non-show media has some dark moments themselves. Such as the one seen below, given what happens as a consequence of it happening.

While I can see that, I’d rather have more darker emotion in the show than action– lessons about darker things. We’ve seen it with DPDOMS with self harm and guilt, Tanks for the Memories for loss of a per, The Cutie Map with its take on political correctness, Castle Sweet Castle on how to cope with loss.  
MLP is a lot darker than some may think.
 
But they have and probably will do some dark action sequences. Remember this?  
 
Hasbro has been a little bit better after each passing season about their grip on DHX. Maybe in season 10 we could actually see death on-screen.

My Little Pony is a toy line for little girls.
 
Friendship is Magic is a show that serves as an ad for the My Little Pony toy line which is for little girls.

There is nothing wrong with targeting a show for little girls, nor are they too weak to handle dramatic things.

The sad part is … MLP could be like that if Hasbro wasn’t so stubborn about trying to maintain little girls as the target audience.

If MLP wasn’t flash animated i’d imagine it would look something like this.
