Chapter 5 begins:
 
Emerald decides to go and try to find Giles.
 
“That’s sweet of you dear, but you don’t know the farm too well right? Praline, honey, would you mind tagging along and helping him look?” Sweet Tea says.
 
Praline nods and springs up onto her hooves and they both make their way to the door.
 
“Hmm, well where was the last place you saw him?” Praline asks.
 
Emerald mentions how he gave Giles his lunch in the barn, and the ponies make their way over. Praline pushes the door open. The sun is low so the inside of the barn is almost pitch black.
 
“Ugh, the farm is so creepy when it’s dark… Giles! You here?!” Praline yells into the opening.
 
There is no answer, so the both of them go in, and it isn’t long before they stumble upon a brown stallion lying on his back in the middle of the barn.
 
“Giles! Giles are you okay?” Praline cries, running up to her brother, “Whew, he’s still breathing… Err, you awake bro?”
 
Emerald quickly makes his way over too, and also is a bit confused about what he sees. Giles is clearly knocked out, but he has the oddest look of happy, half-lidded satisfaction on his face.
 
The two ponies suddenly hear a long, screechy breathing coming from somewhere in the barn, and they both stand bolt upright.
 
“Here I thought I had found the only male on the farm, but I guess there was a second, wasn’t there?”
